Marcus Fabrics > Designers > Pam Buda Pam Buda shares her enthusiasm with quilters through her patterns and projects, and now through her first collection for Marcus Fabrics! Motivated by her Midwestern roots and a lifelong interest in fabrics and sewing, Pam finds inspiration in the lives of early prairie women, and the important role quilting & sewing played in their lives.
"If it is true what they say -- 'Do something you love and you'll never work a day in your life' -- then I go to play, not work. Second only to my husband and kids, quilting and working with fabric is my passion.
I learned to sew in high school home economics class, had a break from sewing in my 20's, and returned to sewing in my 30's. Sewing dolls was my first love, and I made hundreds of dolls over the years, selling them at craft shows. In the early 1990's, I patterned my original doll designs under the name Sew Happy Patterns, attending Quilt Market where I sold them to quilt shops all over the US and Canada. I began teaching doll making then as well.
Then, around 1997 I learned to quilt, and have never made another doll since! I began to teach quilting in 1999, which led to the start of my published quilt design company, Heartspun Quilts, in 2004. Over the years, I have had many wonderful opportunities to meet quilters and teach classes. I love to teach, and look forward to doing so for many years to come."
Pam has enjoyed numerous accolades and achievements in her quilting career, including:
Publishing designs in national magazines such as American Patchwork & Quilting, Quiltmaker
Offering lectures, trunk shows and workshops to guilds, quilt shops and quilt festivals across the US, with upcoming quilting cruise events scheduled for 2012 and beyond
Designing for BOMs, samplers and serial quilt projects for FatQuarterShop.com
For her first collection with Marcus, Pam chose to mirror the popular colors of the era -- Indigo blues, double pinks, and sage greens. "All blend nicely with each other as well as in pairs, i.e., blue/pink, pink/green, blue/green, providing lots of creative combinations in quiltmaking. Lots of fun and different period neutrals add to the mix for even more possibilities," she says.
