Creativity + Passion = Magic! Magic builds new worlds. Phyllis' world is filled with the magic of color, the play of three wonderful granddaughters, an encouraging hubby, rich textiles that burst with possibilities, the inspiration that curiosity offers and days filled with new opportunities. She enjoys resolving relationships between color, textiles, threads and textures.
You might recognize her from In The Patch Designs. It is both her brick and mortar store (opened in 2002) and a showroom for her wool dyeing and pattern design business. With over 2000 product SKU's, 3 USA distributors and one in Barcelona, there is plenty of room for making creative magic. She sells her products wholesale too.
Her company creates amazing packaging for all their products making them ready for placement in stores. From all sizes and colors of wool, both felted and hand-dyed, to hand-dyed threads, to patterns and kits, to quilt stands, to her most recent addition, laser-cut decorative wood buttons. You might also recognize her temporary basting glue, formerly Lapel Stick, now exclusively distributed as Patch Stick. Phyllis’ brick and mortar store is a Top 10 featured shop in Better Homes and Gardens’ Quilt Sampler magazine with her quilt adorning the cover of the Fall/Winter 2016 edition. She is not a newbie to published patterns or cover projects with over 18 patterns in other publications like Primitive Quilts & Projects, Simply Vintage, Simply Moderne, Create & Decorate and several online publications.
Phyllis has a delightful project book with quilts, pillows, candle mats, wall-hangings and so much more published (in English & French) by Quilt Mania (projected release is autumn 2018).
As a shop owner, she understands the challenges store owners face and keeps that in mind when her company creates products and services. She has designed custom patterns for shops in conjunction with the Wooly Block Adventure. She is an inspiring, encouraging and informative speaker who presents at Quilt Market Schoolhouses and in LQS’s and guilds.
From garment maker, to college degrees (a BA in Communication Studies & M.Div.), to adjunct professor in several universities, to quilt shop owner, to project designer, to wool dyer, to fabric designer, Phyllis has been willing to imagine, dream and step through to discover what still lies ahead.
