Class Information: Moonglow Cactus is a pattern that is part of the Congo Star Mixer series by Quiltworx. The pattern is broken into six groups. Some of the techniques that we will use include flying geese, star points and curved piecing. This is a five-session class. In the first class, we will review the pattern, cut pattern papers, review the fabric requirements and cutting fabric. If we have time, we will begin sewing on Group A and Group C. The successive classes will be paper piecing the units. The last class will be catch up and assembly. You may not finish the quilt in class but will learn the skills needed to finish it at home. Please bring all your fabric and supplies to class.

This class is for the Moonglow Cactus pattern only,  if this class goes well,  we will look at a class for any Judy Neimeyer pattern.

Please review the pattern before class. Please bring all your fabric and supplies to
class.

I encourage you to use Quiltster to color your quilt. Quiltster is a color design
subscription-based software (it is accessed via the internet) for coloring Quiltworx patterns. It is available from www.Quiltster.com for a nominal fee. If you decide not to subscribe to Quiltster, I can help you color your quilt using my copy of Quiltster. Please let me know if you would like me to help you with your colors. It will help if
you have an idea of the colors that you would like to use in your quilt. Once you have colored your quilt, Quiltster will give you a yardage table to help with fabric requirements, purchases and cutting.

If you have any questions, please call or e-mail.

Thanks…See you in class!!!

Instructor: Susan Sears
Instructor Bio: I come from a long line of seamstresses, needleworkers, and quilters. I have always had some type of needlework project in progress, crochet, embroidery, cross-stitch, needlepoint, clothes, etc. I started quilting in 1970ish. I hand pieced 9-patch blocks for a doll quilt as part of a 6th grade history project/book report on quilting. The report was finished on time; the 9-patches are still waiting many years later. I made a quilt for college from leftover double knits, backed with pre-quilted fabric and tied. Surprisingly, it won a ribbon at the NM State Fair. I made several jeans quilts and another double-knit quilt in college. Then between starting a career and going back to college, I didn’t make any quilts but continued to do other needlework projects. I started quilting again in the 1990’s making quilted jackets and other small projects. When I lived in Alaska, I began taking classes and learning techniques from several wonderful teachers. When I moved to SW Kansas, I began teaching various quilting classes in 2003 at a local shop. Since moving to Longmont in 2008, I have been teaching quilting to others and taking classes where I have found a wonderful quilting community. In 2008, I took my first Judy Niemeyer/Quiltworx class, Rain Drops, at a retreat in Valdez, AK with a friend. My favorite techniques are foundation paper piecing and traditional piecing. Lately, I have been playing with small quilts. In 2015, I became a Judy Niemeyer/Quiltworx Certified Instructor, teaching others Judy’s paper piecing process and patterns that I enjoy making. The best part of teaching is when the students finish their quilt tops and tell me “I didn’t think it would go together BUT it did!”.
