Beginning Piecing - Block a Month (BOM) Using Sister Sampler Quilts Book (Afternoon Sessions)



Beginning Piecing - make a sampler quilt using either 9” or 12” blocks! Classes will include many different block construction techniques, including:
● Month 1 - Intro and Suzannah pg 14 - Diamond in a square, chaining, nesting
● Month 2 - Aunt Eliza’s Star pg 20 - Quarter square blocks, fussy cutting
● Month 3 - Aunt Lee's Frame pg 30 - Fussy cutting, Flying Geese (using Creative Grid Flying Geese Ruler, and other methods if interest)
● Month 4 - Mosaic #2 pg 54 - Pinwheels and Flying Geese
● Month 5 - Moon and Stars pg 86 - Using Templates, half square blocks, curves
● Month 6 - Button pg 88 - Using Templates, curves
● Month 7 - Tulip Lady Fingers pg 96 - String Piecing and Flying Geese
● Month 8 - Friendship Star pg 98 - Half square triangles and String Piecing, sample of 9” block
● Month 9 - Arranging Blocks and Sashing

Requirements
1. Sister Sampler Quilts book by AnneMarie Chany (Available at A Quilters Corner)
2. Fabric needed for top (borders not included)
- 3 yards White, off-White, or Neutral light fabric
- 10-12 Print Fabrics about half yard each - fillers and focus for fussy cutting (optional) or do a scrappy quilt!
3. Sewing machine with quarter inch presser foot (or equivalent), foot pedal, power cord, and machine manual, usual sewing tools.
4. Rotary cutter and rulers. Creative Grid Flying Geese Ruler highly recommended
5. Thread
6. Templates - available from A Quilter's Corner


Skill Level: Beginner
Skill Details: Completion of Beginning Sewing class or equivalent knowledge, including how to use your machine and how to cut with a rotary cutter.
Instructor: Cheryl Mills
Instructor Bio: Cheryl has been hand sewing since the age of 3, and began sewing on her mom's machine at 8. As a 4-H member, she helped others learn to sew. In college, she majored in Clothing/Textiles at CA State University, Fresno. Over the years, Sheryl has sewn clothes and costumes for others, taught various sewing classes, and is now an avid quilter and teacher.
