Binding Basics



Come learn to cut and sew the perfect binding on your quilt. Learn how to cut bias binding, how to stitch the binding on to quilt, miter the corners, and join the edges together. Finishing options include hand stitching on the back of the quilt or doing a machine finished quilt binding on the front.

A second class is available to teach you how to create custom cording to finish your quilt binding.

Requirements: Please bring the following: - Sewing machine - Sewing machine supplies (with manual, needles, power cord, foot pedal, in working condition) - 2-3 quilt sandwiches (front fabric, batting, and backing fabric - approximately 15"x15") - you may pre-quilt fabric at home with straight lines approximately 1.5 inches apart. - Ruler: 6" x 24" Quilting ruler (size may vary), large square ruler, 2-1/2" Trim Ruler - Rotary cutter with new blades - Scissors - Seam Ripper - 1/4 inch foot - Neutral thread with matching bobbin - Binding Clips - Pins - Seam Guage - 1/2 yard of fabric for binding (we will create in class)
Instructor: Jill Perry
Instructor Bio: Jill Perry has worked at A Quilter's Corner since the store's opening in August 2016. Jill began her teaching career as a serger instructor in Boulder CO and taught for over 12 years. Those classes included learning your serger, computerized sewing machines, quilting, sewing tools, clothing construction, and swimwear. Jill made most of her children's clothing and continued with costume design for ballet recitals, Halloween and CosPlay costumes, and lots of outdoor camping projects. Jill has degrees in business management, graphic design, web design, and information and learning technologies. Obviously, Jill is a techie and loves learning, sharing what she knows with others, and learning something new from our customers. Jill loves incorporating computer technology with sewing and quilting and looks forward to teaching more classes in digital embroidery, machine quilting design, and computerized longarm quilting with the HandiQuilter ProStitcher.
