Beginning Piecing - Learn One Block a Month



Beginning piecing gets you started making a sampler quilt! This class is 1 full year~ Cost of the class

will include a kit, with 2 colorway choices. Classes will begin January 17, and there will be 10 classes in

2020. A final meeting in January 2021, after you have had time to have your quilt quilted, will be held to

do binding and labels.

Classes will include many different block construction techniques, including:

  • Matching points, nesting, and spinning
  • Square in a square
  • Half squares and quarter squares
  • Flying geese
  • Pinwheels
  • String quilt technique
  • Sewing curves
  • Template use (templates provided in kit)
  • Squaring blocks
  • Sashing
  • Mitered borders and how to insure that it stays square
  • Binding
  • Labeling quilt
  • Constructing 8 different blocks 2 ways (Sisters), for a total of 16 blocks. These will be used tocreate a lap-size quilt
  • Backing quilt
  • January class to learn binding after you have your quilt top quilted


Class will not include quilting your quilt top.

Required for class:

Completion of Beginning Sewing or equivalent knowledge, including how to use your machine and how

to cut with a rotary cutter.

Instructor: Cheryl Mills
Instructor Bio: Cheryl has been hand sewing since the age of 3, and began sewing on her mom?s machine at 8. As a 4-H member, she helped others learn to sew. In high school, she was a teacher?s aid to the middle school Home Ec. teacher. In college, she majored in Clothing/Textiles at CA State University, Fresno. Over the years, Cheryl has sewn for others, taught various sewing classes, and is now an avid quilter while continuing to make clothing projects for family members.
